4 Tips to maximise the Secondary School Open House experience

As most open houses offer tours, interactive sessions with current students and teachers, and activities that showcase the school’s academic programs and co-curricular activities (CCAs). To get the most out of the visit:
Engage with Teachers: This is a great chance to ask questions about the school’s environment and its approach to student well-being, especially for areas like DSA programs.
Ask Students about how they find the school: Students will be better able to explain their school experiences in a more authentic and relatable way for your child.
Observe Interactions: Observe the way students relate to each other and how they relate to their teachers as this will most accurately capture the school’s culture, values and environment. Assessing and observing this would be most helpful for your child to decide whether they are comfortable or feel at ease in the school.
Find out about each school’s academic or extracurricular opportunities: Some schools have IP affiliations, DSA affiliations or even scholarship opportunities that are particular to their school, as such, intentionally enquiring about these will help you figure out if your child has a good pathway for holistic education and development in those schools.
